FPCD work more relevant than ever

FPCD Redoubles its Efforts for Post Conflict Development in Timor-Leste

The Foundation for Post Conflict Development (FPCD) wishes to express its support to and solidarity with President Jose Ramos-Horta, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, members of Parliament, all institutions of State and the people of Timor-Leste in this difficult time.

The Foundation for Post Conflict Development wishes to thank all friends and supporters for their overwhelming concern and support for Executive Director Claudia Abate, currently in Dili. The FPCD assures that Ms. Abate is safe and that the situation on the ground, while tense, is calm.

Now is the time for the international community to rise to the challenges presented by yesterday's tragic events. It is especially in times of adversity that we and Timor-Leste must convey our hope for a future of peace and development and with continued efforts and friendship to ensure that this was only a temporary setback. The FPCD's work is more relevant than ever and we will not abandon the people and communities where we have an everyday impact through the Maternity Clinic in Same, the Youth Center in Dili and future initiatives.

Ms. Abate states that in just 2 months since her last visit, "I have been heart-warmed to see visible signs of new progress, most notably the new sidewalks throughout Dili and the many newly planted trees, protected by make-shift wooden fences."

Ms. Abate further states, "In my many conversations with President Ramos-Horta, I know with conviction that when he wakes from his coma, he would want to know that we never faltered in our efforts to bring his people out of poverty. President Ramos-Horta did not walk away from gun fire, just as he would not want us to be distracted at this moment and walk away from Timor-Leste".
