First Boy and Girl Born at Prince Rainier III Maternity Clinic Take Center Stage at Prince Rainier III Anniversary Celebrations
(First boy Albert named in honour of Prince Albert II of Monaco)

(First Girl born named Claudia for FPCD Executive Director)

The Community of Same put together a moving celebration in honour of the 1 year anniversary of the inauguration of the Prince Rainier III Maternity Clinic in the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, held on April 19 2008.

Accompanied by Timor-Leste's Minister of Health, Dr. Nelson Martins and Dr. Jaime Sarmento of the Ministry of Health, commemorations were held with tradition and hundreds of women and children who benefited from the Prince Rainier III Maternity Clinic.
To date, 448 babies have been born in healthy conditions thanks to the generosity of Prince Albert II of Monaco and the Principality of Monaco.

The midwives of the Prince Rainier III Maternity Clinic baked a cake in the shape of the Clinic itself. FPCD Executive Director Claudia Abate cut the cake, together with District Health Administor while the District Administrator ( Mayor) and the Minister of Health uncorked a bottle of champagne.

Ms. Abate served pieces of the cake to 5 expectant mothers inside the Prince Rainier III Maternity Clinic.


The Maternity Clinic is the first of its kind in Timor-Leste and due to its success, has become the model to applied to each district and sub-district throughout the entire country.

Congratulations to the Ministry of Health for their outstanding service to the women of Same and Timor-Leste!
