Princess Grace of Monaco Maternity Clinic in Oecussi, Timor-Leste

On the 10 Year Anniversary of the United Nations Led Referendum in Timor-Leste and the 30 Year Anniversary of Refugee Camp Visit, Princess Grace Medals and Princess Grace Maternity Clinic is Announced

Oecussi, Timor-Leste - an enclave district and site of the where the Portuguese first landed in 1515 - is known to have the best sandalwood trees in the world.

It is a fitting district to mark Monaco's gift of the Princess Grace Maternity Clinic on the occasion of the 30 Year anniversary of Her visit to the Timorese Refugee Camps in Val de Jamor Portugal.

To announce these two special gifts, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco named a Personal Envoy, Madame Jacky Deromedi, Monaco's Honorary Consul if Singapore, to represent Him at the commemoration ceremonies taking place on 30 August 2009 in Timor-Leste.

Madame Deromedi, made remarks on behalf of Prince Albert II, at the side of Timor-Leste's Parliament President, His Excellency Fernando Lasama de Araujo, announcing the gift of Princess Grace of Monaco Medals. Madame Deromedi also explained that it is the wish of Prince Albert II to stand by Timor-Leste in solidarity and friendship now and in the future.

The Princess Grace medals are bequeathed to Timor-Leste in follow-up to the visit of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II's to Timor-Leste on 18-19 April 2008 - the wedding anniversary of His Beloved Parents.

Medals will be awarded at the behest of the President of the Parliament for members of Timor-Leste's international solidarity movement who made outstanding humanitarian contributions in the spirit of Princess Grace's visit to the Timorese refugee camps.

In light of the fact that the Prince Rainier III Maternity Clinic has been a great success and to honour Princess Grace, it was decided to create the Princess Grace Maternity Clinic in Oecussi. Support is offered by the Government of Prince Albert II and the Monaco Red Cross and construction will begin in 2010.
